Joseph Smith, the founder of Mormonism, practiced polygamy as part of his religious teachings in the early 19th century. Smith claimed to have received revelations from God that authorized the practice, leading him to marry multiple women, including teenagers and some already married to other men. This practice was mainly kept secretive during his lifetime and by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for the first two hundred years of its awful legacy.
